There a lot of exciting facilitator roles in your organisation you can take on part-time or full-time to support teams in companies to work more agile and aligned to create amazing results. They further support you to enhance your career with more general roles and new skills / insights besides your current expert jobs.

Scrum Master: (part-time / full-time role)

A Scrum Master is a facilitator and servant leader for an Agile development team. Their primary role is to remove impediments and ensure the team adheres to the Scrum framework, maximizing their effectiveness. This involves several key responsibilities:

  • Facilitating Scrum Events:  This includes sprint planning, daily scrums, sprint reviews, and sprint retrospectives. They guide the team through these meetings, ensuring they're productive and focused.

  • Removing Impediments:  The Scrum Master actively identifies and removes anything blocking the team's progress. This could be anything from technical issues to resource constraints or organizational roadblocks.

  • Coaching the Team: They coach the team on Scrum principles and practices, helping them to improve their self-organization and collaboration. This also includes coaching the Product Owner on effectively managing the product backlog.

  • Protecting the Team: The Scrum Master shields the team from external distractions and pressures, allowing them to focus on their work.

  • Promoting Scrum Values and Principles: They embody and promote the values of Scrum, fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.

In short, the Scrum Master's goal is to create an environment where the development team can thrive and deliver value efficiently. They don't manage the team in a traditional sense, but rather empower them to self-organize and manage their work.

Chief of Staff: (full-time coordination role)

A Chief of Staff (CoS) is a senior executive who acts as a critical support and advisor to a CEO or other top-level executive. Their role is highly versatile and adaptable to the specific needs of the organization and the executive they support, but some common responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Planning and Execution:  Helping to develop and implement the organization's overall strategy. This includes research, analysis, and coordination across different departments.

  • Project Management: Overseeing and managing key initiatives and projects, ensuring they stay on track and meet their objectives. This often involves coordinating efforts across various teams.

  • Communication and Information Flow: Acting as a central hub for information, ensuring the executive is well-informed and can effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders. This includes managing communications, scheduling, and meetings.

  • Decision-Making Support:  Providing research, analysis, and recommendations to help the executive make informed decisions.

  • Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally.

  • Prioritization and Time Management: Helping the executive prioritize tasks and manage their time effectively, filtering information and requests.

  • Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving issues before they escalate, proactively addressing potential challenges.

Essentially, a CoS acts as a multiplier for the executive they support, enabling them to focus on high-level strategic decisions while ensuring the smooth operation of their office and the effective execution of their priorities. The exact responsibilities can vary significantly depending on the size and structure of the organization, and the executive's style and needs.
